Experiment: First thoughts

In First Thoughts, I am taking the haiku form and using RiGrammar to re-generate new haikus with words from haiku.json. The lines are organized in a diagonal fashion and are given a new, random, dark color with each click. The background color is also given a new, random, pastel color with each click. The words that have been chosen for this project consist of words, thoughts, and concepts that I have learned from the class Ghanaian Drumming and Dancing within Brown’s music department.
If the same text is presented in 2D format, it would not necessarily be the same work, depending on how it it translated to 2D and if the piece can still portray the concepts that it is portraying in 3D. Because there is another dimension in 3D, there is a vastly larger space of combinations and possibilities than in 2D. 2D is flatter and cannot portray depth in the same way. Keywords: flat, depth, height, width, space, more, perception, shape, angle, distance.
From the artistic research project Curved, the words are formatted in certain shapes and forms that require not just height and width, but depth as well. Thus, when approaching a 3D artwork, I look for the textures and shapes that are created from the additional dimension of depth.
